This year’s Poole Festival of Running takes place on Sunday 6 June in Poole Park.
The event offers races for first timers and experienced runners and will be raising funds for Poole Hospital’s Maternity Unit Appeal.
There are mile-long fun runs for boys and girls aged between 8 and 11, while older children aged between 12 and 14 have that little bit further to run in their 1.5 mile event.
Anyone aged over 15 years old can enter one of two events – the ‘Born to Run’ 5km charity race or the Poole 10km race. The 10km race is being started by Maurice Best, aged 92, who is a WW2 veteran and was part of the D day landings on 6 June 1944.
There are lots of prizes on offer. As well as medals for all Minithon finishers and trophies for the winners, there will be an opportunity for one lucky Minithon runner, who entered before race day, to win a Wii Console and Wii Fit Sports Pack.
In addition the child who collects the most sponsorship money for Poole Hospital, will be invited to the Daily Echo to experience a day as a reporter. Poole Schools will also be given the chance to win £200 worth of vouchers to buy sports equipment – based on the school who enters the most children.
