Hay fever season is upon us once again. It affects 20% of the U.K. population & 10 million in England alone. Of course different pollen effects different people at different times, coming from trees, plants & grass.
If you are a sufferer you will know when it kicks off, so make a note on your calendar when to start taking some precautions.
For example antihistamines & or steroid nasal sprays as it can take up to 3 weeks for the sprays to take full effect. Pre book an appointment with your doctor if you need prescriptive drugs.
Though there as yet is no cure there are some things you can do to ease the miserable symptoms.
Wearing wraparound sunglasses can help to prevent pollen irritating your eyes. Use eye drops to soothe the itch. Soak some cotton wool pads in water or witch hazel, wrap in cling film & pop in the fridge then when your eyes feel tired & irritated place the cooled pads over your eyes.
Use tissues with added moisturiser to protect your nose.
A smear of Vaseline just inside your nose will help to catch some of the pollen.
Boots sell a natural sea water nasal spray for £6.49, that will wash pollen out of your nose. Probably not comfortable but effective.
Shower, wash your hair & change into clean clothes when you get home. Keep you windows closed, including the car, & if you get hot in the house buy an electric fan.
Invest in an air purifier.
Tumble dry your washing instead of hanging it outside to dry.
Hope these tips help some of you poor sufferers out there.
