Helping Young People Climb The Job Ladder

Up to 75 jobs will be created for young people in Poole following a successful bid to the Government’s £1 billion Future Jobs Fund.
Borough of Poole’s Economic Development team is leading a local initiative to help out-of-work young people between the ages of 18 and 24 into employment.

Services across the council, along with private sector partners, will recruit young people from Poole to help them get a foot on the employment ladder and develop the skills required for success in the workplace.

The Future Jobs Fund was established in 2009 to create 170,000 jobs nationwide. From early 2010, young people between the ages of 18 and 24 who have been looking for work for a year will get an offer of a job, work experience, or training lasting at least six months.

Cllr Ron Parker, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Local Economy, Borough of Poole, said: "This is tremendous news for the local economy and especially for young people in Poole who have found it hard to find work during the recent recession. The jobs created by this fund will give our young people the opportunity to gain invaluable experience that will serve them well in their future working lives."

The Future Jobs Fund is expected to create over 500 new jobs across the Poole, Poole, Bournemouth and Dorset area.

Adrian Trevett, Economic Development Manager, Borough of Poole, said: "This represents an investment of up to £500,000 and an excellent opportunity for us to assist young people in Poole who have struggled to find employment during these tough times."
