TV personality and environmental campaigner Brigit Strawbridge will be helping The Big Green Fortnight get into full swing in Poole this weekend.

The Big Green Fortnight, which runs from 15 to 31 May, is an environmentally friendly celebration of living greener lifestyles in Bournemouth and Poole.
Hosted by Poole Partnership and Bournemouth 2026 and supported by Borough of Poole and Bournemouth Borough Council , the fortnight is a great opportunity for residents and visitors to get involved in some fun green activities.

Highlights of the two weeks include the Big Green Bus tour, a film festival, gigs and family events such as walks and cycle rides.
The Big Green Bus arrives at Lighthouse , Poole’s Centre for the Arts, at 5.30pm on Friday 15 May. Run on biodiesel or waste vegetable oil, the Big Green Bus is a showcase for sustainable living. Designed with carefully chosen flooring, paints, textiles and lighting, all from recycled or sustainable sources, the bus demonstrates the environmentally-friendly choices that can be made in the home.

Inside the bus there are energy-saving devices, water-saving gadgets, natural products for skincare and cleaning, examples of eco-friendly insulation and much more. There are also more interactive displays and a pedal powered smoothie maker outside the bus.

The Dorset Humanists will be hosting a talk by Brigit Strawbridge ‘It’s Easy Being Green!’ at Lighthouse at 7.30pm on Friday 15 May. The talk aims to offer practical solutions to limit people’s impact on the environment.

Brigit Strawbridge, The Big Green Idea, said: "I am hoping to show people that we can all green up our lives at the same time as saving money, getting healthier and having a lot of fun."

The Big Green Bus tour continues to Falklands Square, Poole on Saturday 16 May between 10am and 4pm and will be at Bournemouth Square on Sunday 17 May between 10.30am and 3.30pm. Come and visit the Big Green Bus, meet Brigit and Friends and local green groups including East Dorset Friends of the Earth, Transition BH, Poole Agenda 21, and Bournemouth and Poole Greenpeace.

The Big Green Film Festival hosted by Poole Agenda 21 in partnership with the Lighthouse will be held at the Lighthouse Cinema as part of the Big Green Fortnight. The festival will be showing key films on environmental and sustainability themes between 15 and 21 May.

Members of Poole Agenda 21 will be available to discuss the issues raised in the films.
Andrew Flockhart, Strategic Director, Borough of Poole, said: "The Big Green Fortnight is a brilliant example of local authorities, charities, green groups and local businesses working together to demonstrate the importance of environmental and sustainable issues. This event will provide the perfect opportunity to raise awareness within the local community of these issues but in a fun and interactive way.

"We are delighted that Brigit Strawbridge is able to support the Big Green Fortnight by bringing the Big Green Bus Tour to Poole and Bournemouth. We hope that everyone will have the chance to get involved during the fortnight and will enjoy the different events that are available."
