The much-loved Beating of the Land Bounds returns to Poole on Saturday 16 May 2026, bringing together local residents, families, cyclists, walkers, and community groups for a unique celebration of local heritage and community spirit.
Dating back centuries, the tradition of “Beating the Bounds” was originally carried out to mark and remember the boundaries of a parish or town. Before modern maps and GPS existed, local people would walk the boundary lines to ensure they remained recognised and protected for future generations. Today, the event continues as a vibrant community tradition — combining history, civic pride, health and wellbeing activities, and family-friendly fun.
This year’s event promises an exciting mix of ceremonial activities, cycling, walking, music, and opportunities for residents to connect while enjoying some of the beautiful surroundings of Poole.

The Mayor’s Community Cycle Ride
