AFC Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen has completed a £50 million transfer to Real Madrid, with the Spanish giants activating his release clause. The 20-year-old centre-back has signed a five-year contract starting June 1, 2025, and will join Madrid in time for the FIFA Club World Cup in the US on June 15.
Huijsen transferred from Juventus to Bournemouth for £12.8 million in July 2024 and quickly excelled in the Premier League. In his debut season, he played 34 games and scored three goals, playing a key role in Bournemouth's successful campaign under manager Andoni Iraola. His performances earned him his first senior cap for Spain in March.
Despite interest from top Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea, Huijsen opted for Real Madrid, citing it as his dream move. The transfer fee will be paid in three instalments through 2026.
Bournemouth thanked Huijsen in a statement and confirmed he will play in their last two matches of the season before officially joining Real Madrid.
