Poole has officially entered a new chapter in its civic history with the election of its first civic leaders under the newly established Poole Town Council.
At the first Full Council meeting of the new authority, councillors elected Tracey Newman as Mayor of Poole, Steve Hayes as Deputy Mayor, and Rosemarie Stirk as Sheriff.
The appointments mark a significant milestone for the town, as they are the first civic positions to be chosen by the newly formed Town Council, which was created to represent the interests and traditions of Poole at a local level.
Outgoing Mayor Mark Howell reflected warmly on his year in office, describing the experience as both an honour and a privilege.
"Being the 777th Mayor of Poole has been an absolute privilege."
He also extended his best wishes to the incoming Mayor as she begins her year of service to the community.
As Mayor, Tracey Newman will serve as Poole's principal civic representative, attending community events, celebrations, commemorations, and official engagements throughout the coming year. Supporting her in these duties will be Deputy Mayor Steve Hayes and Sheriff Rosemarie Stirk, who will also play important roles in promoting and supporting community activities across the town.
The election of the new civic team represents both continuity and renewal for Poole, maintaining long-standing local traditions while embracing the opportunities presented by the new Town Council structure.
Residents can expect to see the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Sheriff attending a wide range of events over the coming months, helping to celebrate the achievements of local organisations, volunteers, businesses and community groups.
As Poole's new civic year begins, the town looks forward to the leadership and community spirit that the new civic team will bring to the role.
