The October edition of The Clarion, your community magazine for Lytchett Minster and Upton, is packed with local stories, news, and events to keep you informed and connected.

📖 Local History Exhibition

Plans are underway for a permanent exhibition on the history of Lytchett Minster and Upton. Residents are invited to contribute photographs, diaries, artefacts, and memories to help bring the story of our community to life.

🌸 Upton in Bloom

From the success of their annual plant sale to a new poetry competition for schoolchildren, Upton in Bloom celebrates community spirit while looking ahead to exciting projects.

🎨 Community Arts Update

The Beacon Community Art Strand has been busy preparing mural boards for World Mental Health Day, plus unveiling a brand-new handcrafted bench designed by local university students for the mural garden.

🌳 Allotments & Autumn Harvest

The Lytchett Minster Allotment Association continues to supply fresh produce for the local foodbank while preparing for their popular Bonfire Night on 15th November.

🗑 Keep Upton Tidy

With over two million pieces of litter dropped daily across the UK, the group reminds residents of the upcoming Autumn Litter Pick on Sunday 5th October.

📚 Library Events

From craft mornings and quiz afternoons to Lego Club and Citizens Advice drop-ins, Upton Library has something for everyone this month — plus a spooky Batty Half-Term event for families.

🕊 Remembering Suzanne Waters

Staff and students at Lytchett Minster School pay tribute to much-loved teacher Suzanne Waters, remembered for her compassion, dedication, and the comfort she and her dog Bonnie brought to many pupils.

🐿 Nature on Brownsea Island

This month features guided red squirrel walks, fungi forays, wetland bird tours, and bushcraft sessions — perfect for nature lovers and families.

🌺 Floral Club & Local Groups

From creative demonstrations at the Floral Club to a cyber crime awareness talk by Dorset Police hosted by the U3A, there are plenty of opportunities to learn, create, and connect.

❤️ Community Tributes

We also honour the life and work of Dame Annette Brooke, former MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, remembered for her dedication to social justice and tireless service to the community.

The Clarion continues to be created and delivered by volunteers, helping to keep our community connected.
